PITCHER & BOWL WASH SET - 1828 - 1837

WHITE 'BLANC' - 12 Sided Bowl & 8 Sided Pitcher

MARKED: "Imperial Ironstone China" Royal Coat of Arms - "Saml Alcock & Co"

Origin: Burslem & Cobridge England

Antiques Roadshow quote: "If it is all white it was perfect & was so marked Blanc - the imperfect ones were Decorated to hide the pottery defects or discolorations."

   Imperial Ironstone 8 Sided Pitcher & 12 sided Bowl - 1828   Imperial ironstone 8 Sided Pitcher - 1828

Pitcher has 8 sides and is 11 1/2" high by 8" wide & has a fixed separation at top of handle where it joins the top of the pitcher. Bottom of handle is fine - no problems.

Repair of Pitcher Handle

Bowl has 12 sides and is 13" diameter x 4 1/2" high. Base round ring is 7 1/2" Diameter x 1" high. Bowl has chip under lip which shows white pottery pure color and a slight 2 1/2" hairline crack down from the rim (not thru).

Bowl Rim small crack

Basemarks on both pieces show the Royal Coat of Arms of Imperial Ironstone China Saml (Samuel) Alcock & Co. Both pieces qualify for the quality "B" mark of blanc (white) pottery (given only if the piece was without defects - defect pieces had designs put on them - few pieces qualified for the "B" mark), and the pitcher also has a number stamp incised under the glaze of "29". No country of Origin = 1828 to 1837, however our research shows this time frame at Burslem & Cobridge England. Also shield mark is a shield shape & not oval.
