100 Tons Of Stuff To Sell - Estate Antiques

Model-Craft - Kay Stanley's Molding & Coloring Set No.15 - "Disney Characters" in Original box - circa 1948-49.

Model-Craft, Inc.521 West Monroe St., Chicago 6, Illinois. Set contains: 6 Red Rubber Molds to make your own Walt Disney Characters: Dumbo, Thumper, Bambi, Flower, Joe Carioca, Goofy. Comes with: rubber molds, cardboard can w/metal top of white molding powder (probably plaster of paris), 8 circles of watercolor, 1 paint brush, 1 round shallow glass Anchor Hocking mixing bowl, 1 wood spatula, 1 plastic bag of talcum powder, 1 glass jar w/metal lid of varnish, 1 cotton swab, and 16 page full color booklet of instructions & advertisements of other characters available. Original box is mostly pink with Bambi illustrated on the top. The box has an original store tag from: Kann's in Washington D.C. of $2.95 (this store no longer exists - see history at bottom). Box & contents stored since the 1950's & the box lid is somewhat weathered & 2 sides have been taped. Colors are fine and box bottom is fine. Contents are in excellent condition & rubber molds are still soft. The catalog/booklet is in excellent condition. Characters were made by combining molding powder & water, filling the rubber molds, letting them dry then painting them.

	16 page full color booklet with lots of models available for you to make with the molding powder and paint. This booklet has no date. The models of cars & trucks shown in the book place the date as 1948 - 1950. The page shown at left & above show the Disney Characters available - the Bambi box is the one we have for sale. No copyright information is shown in this booklet nor on the box for the Disney Characters nor "used with permission".



	In researching the Model-Craft Company: 1) they no longer have a hyphen in their name; 2) only put out plastic & metal models mostly of vehicles. The main store of S. Kann Sons Co. was located at 8th Street and Market Place, N.W., at Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D. C. in 1893, was sold in 1978 & burned in 1979.

Kay Stanley put out many of these modeling sets "Fun, Educational, Profitable" hoping to get children & adults interested in crafts creation and provide an opportunity to make money of the finished painted characters. We have seen a few other sets available from the 1950's or later but none were the Disney Characters. Plus we notice that one of the above mentioned characters is Joe Carioca - a parrot - which I do not recall being continued by Disney past the early 1950's.
